Current Obsession

Made with fabric snippets and thread
This copy of Van Gogh's painting "Small Pear Tree in Blossom" was created with small snippets of cloth and many passes of thread stitching.  I do it in multiple layers, using netting to cover each layer then stitching over the netting.  I enjoy the process, especially stitching with my machine to finish the design.  I will either turn this into a pillow or frame.  I haven't yet decided.

Clematis Blossoms

Clematis vines grow on our old wire corn crib.  They bloom early in the season.  The cornfield on the other side of the wire corn crib is more than eight feet tall today, but when I took the photo, you couldn't see even seedlings.  The clematis vines put on several beautiful shows and then they quit flowering.  What is left of the blossom first forms into the spiralling button shown at the top of the photos, then the spiral begins to turn into a fuzz ball.  The middle one is the transforming spiral.  The end result are these hairy looking things which almost look like feathers up close.  When you touch them, they fall off and blow away.  Each phase of the clematis flower is beautiful!

Another Fabric Pillow--Stone Fence in the Cotswolds, England

I haven't been posting, but I have been "working."  I had so much fun making my first pillow out of itty-bitty pieces of fabric sandwiched between netting, then sewing, and sewing, and sewing some more with miles of thread stitching that I made another.  Sorry, this one is gone too!  I donated it to the Feed My People Auction in Eau Claire in August, 2012.  I have ideas for more pillows.  Now I just have to find the time.

New Website

I've taken the plunge and purchased my name as a domain and set up a website that showcases both my writing and my art and opens a window to my private world.   I invite you to take a look at www.candacehennekens.com.

The process of setting it up was easy once I found Weebly.com.  They offer a wonderful, easy to use interface.  And the best part, the site is free (for now at least).  So take a look. It took me many more hours to create this landscape pillow than it did to create a professional looking website.
